Have the crepe on my Roy boots and on a pair of shell Indys. I think they work well on boots and the comfort is unmatched. I'd probably pass on them on a blucher as well.

edit: Love that #8 Ranger Moc on the crepe ...the suede chukka from J Crew too. OK, I like the crepe

I'm considering these... The only issue is that I have little experience with the leydon... I wear 10E in the narrower lasts, I think I may have to size up to 10.5D in Leydon (no E sizes are available)... Any guys with wider feet have experience with this last in non-suede shoes?

nephew,
if my thinking is correct the leydon last and the plaza last are similar; therefore, the 10.5 D should work for you. did you bounce this question on tom

With the whiskey indy being posted I wanted to chime in and add that I agree that these whiskey indys are fantastic, but also add that they show why the machine stitched toe on the shell indy is superior to the hand stitched toe.
The machine stitching allows the shell the rolling effect that shell has when it is stepped in, which is something I think we all appreciate.
The hand stitched toes on the shell indy boot don't look nearly as good when creased as I think the photo below shows:

nephew,
it is interesting to note that the hand stitching on the nst is o/s

does ANYBODY actually like crepe soles? they're so awful.

I have the crepe sole on a couple pair of longwings, a pair of NST All Weather Walkers, and I am on the Context preorder for a pair of the Roy boots on the crepe. They are hands down the most comfortable soles I have on any shoes or boots I have ever worn. In fact, I wore my kudu longwings on the crepe on a 7 mile walk this morning and wouldn't hesitate to put them on to do the walk again. They are also extremely sticky on tile and pavement during inclement weather.

I don't go out of my way to find shoes on the crepe sole but I have a feeling that a lot of the people who seem to hate them so much have never actually tried them.

How dod you get the 15% off?
Sherman Bros is having a 15% Alden sale right now. It might be for in store only tough. I live ten minutes from their Haverford location. Their selection is pretty limited, but if you are in the market for the basics this is a definite deal.

Looks just like the Black Fleece ones from a few years ago, with the antique edge. Kinda want to find a pair and repaint the welt on the black fleece ones

They're on crepe sole though.

Whoever is spec'ing out Unionmade Aldens has an unhealthy obsession with that loden green and crepe soles.

The sale is definitely not on line. I called them and made the order. I happened to be in Philly a year ago when they had a 25% off sale on Alden. I bought a color 8 LWB for $518. They didn't actually have my size but they ordered it from Alden and had it drop shipped to my home. They told me they would run the same special a year later. I called today and they're sending me a black shell PTB. I think they only carry the standard black shell and color 8 models. A year ago they had a couple of models in cigar and ravello, but I have no idea what they have now.
