Just got my Color 8 LHS back from recrafting (1st time using Alden's service). They are just like new. Very happy with the results.

This is probably true. Obviously once you see it it's hard to unsee but it got by Jim at SF, me and 3-4 other people I sent pictures to yesterday until eagle-eyed @JSO1 spotted it :-D

My grail among grails arrived, Color 4 plain toe boots. Not only do I love the makeup but I believe these are the reddest pair of Color 4 that I've received to date.

But there's a very strange flaw with them that I've never seen with any other pair so let's play a game and see who can spot it first. Needless to say they may be on their way to Bedos very soon to get them up to snuff.

Funny as Alden seems to have not settled on their preferred piping color for Color #4 yet.

B+M WT - Brown
DW PCT - Tan (was assumed this was because they started as Whiskey)
SF PT - Brown
DC MCT - Tan

And the LS15, which was made with Color 4 (although marketed as Ravello), also has tan binding.

Nothing like a little cigar on tassels to make you smile.

My first cashmere and silk tie as well.

Today we have a maiden voyage of some Color 8 shell cordovan chukkas. This is my first pair of Alden shell and as soon as I took these out of the box, I immediately understood what all the fuss was about. They are really something special. I used to have a pair of Allen Edmonds Dundee chukkas in brown shell and they were extremely versatile and comfortable. These seem a lot more substantial than the Dundees. I don't know if the Aldens really are more substantial, or if that's just my subjective impression, but they sure feel like it.

The overall impression is that this is one heck of a shoe that will undoubtedly be worn very often.

I like the three eyed Dundee’s a lot. But the steel shank in the Alden’s make them far more supportive and comfortable, especially on long days.

I'm attending a statewide conference of corporate presidents / CEO's, age range from late 30's to 60's. 80% men / 20% women. Most men in suits or sport coats, many w/ ties. Being bored as hell, I'm paying attention to shoes:

1/3 - either browns or black traditional dress shoes on leather or rubber (wing tip or captoe or plain toe, dress loafers, etc.) mostly from cheaper manufacturers.

1/3 - sneakers with white soles masquerading as dress shoes.

And STILL 1/3 - black bicycle toe shoes.

There's a great market for real shoes if someone could break in.

I'm not wearing a jacket and sporting calfskin penny loafers.
