I am new to the forum, but have been lurking for the past 6 months. I have recently lost a lot of weight (60 pounds with fewer calories in and lots of calories being burned) and thus I am having new suits tailored. I am 6'1" and have a really short neck. I would easily be 6'4" if I had a normal length neck, as the height of my shoulders is higher than anyone 6'4". I am broad chested and now without a gut. Almost all suit coats or sports jackets need to have the neck lowered in back for me to eliminate the fabric bulge where the back fabric meets up against the collar.
The tailor I am using, who came highly recommended by Nordstroms, said that if he shortens the neck in back, it will cause the lapels on the front of the jacket to pull up and make them lay away from my chest instead of against the chest. Has anyone heard of this before or is he just being lazy? Other than this, he does a great job of tailoring, even putting in working sleeve buttons when asked, and I am willing to pay whatever is reasonable to have the jackets tailored correctly. I would appreciate your input.
Thanks.
