Do you have any supervisors who you were friendly with and might be sympathetic to your plight? I had a friend who also quit her job because the higher ups pushed her too far, but she also had good relationships with the middle management she worked with and if she needs references she can get it from those people. Maybe not as good as getting a rec from a SVP or something, but still better than nothing.

Yeah IT is not an enjoyable field - the secret is to just not care about the people you work with or the work itself and just play fake nice till you can run out the door.

Till then be creative get a firearms license and frame it and put it up on your office wall/cubicle and make sure you smile at every co-worker you see. Once and a while give em that wink that says well I'm sure they'll know what it says.

Get and out doors style picture of you in hunting camo with a bow & arrow and a rifle at your feet. Put it on your desk so other workers know you do stuff outside of work.

Put up some articles about how stress gives people cancer. You know keep people aware of modern day work issues.

Just think 'office space'

I've dabbled in pretty much everything during undergrad, from biochem, to finance, to what i'm in now (classics). I'm one of those guys that's good at everything, but passionate about nothing. I took an international public law class on a whim without any expectation of liking it and can honestly say that I enjoyed it more than any other class i've taken, with the exception of my roman history classes. I like the subtlety of law, which btw is the same reason I enjoy NL hold'em.

I'm going to write the LSAT and see where it goes. If I get in to a school that's worth going to, I'll attend. If I only get in to a school I consider marginal, I'll give it some more thought depending on whether it's an american or canadian school. It's considerably cheaper to attend law school in canada than in the US. Tuition is 6-10k as opposed to 30-40k. But even if I do decide to go to an american school, 120k in loans isn't such a big deal over a 30 year career. Would I make more money as an MBA? Probably. I think I would be happier as a lawyer though.

The only thing I got from those threads is that there is no guaranteed path to success (lets define success as a middle-class income of say 100-200k

). No matter what, you have to work hard and excel. Hard work doesn't scare me so the idea that I might not make 150k as soon as I graduate isn't the end of the world to me, as long as I am doing something I generally enjoy.

I'm pretty sure that your recommenders are supposed to put the letter of recommendation in a sealed envelope and you have an ethical duty not to open that envelope.

One of my recommenders asked me to write my own letter, which he would then just sign. That was a little weird.

Are you not going to use the new cover sheets? I've heard that's a quick and easy way to get fired.
