What is the break-in and MAC method that you guys are referring to? I got a pair of these that I haven't worn yet either. My first cordovan shoe.

According to one statement, the Mac method for care:
1-wipe with a damp cloth
2-brush vigorously with a horse hair shoe brush
3-buff with smooth cloth
4-avoid applying polish-wear the shoes a minimum of at least fifteen wearing before thinking of using polish

More information here: http://lastedleather.com/Mac Method/Mac Method Cordovan.html#

or http://theagatineeyelet.wordpress.com/2010/10/05/the-mac-method/

A big time Alden owner (mens gaga) with a great looking shell collection also recommends:
>>Use pantyhose after use waste cloth.
Apply cream or wax using waste cloth and then polish using pantyhose.<<

There are some who advocate no polish for shell, just conditioners (paste wax.) The idea is not to interfere with the color the leather already has. This has been discussed recently in the Alden thread.

As for the break-in method, I see that (uncle) Macarthur recently explained it this way:
>>break in method as follows:
wear shoe only on carpeting
wear three different times for a minimum of one hour
after three wearing you will be able to ascertain if the shoes fit properly<<

At this point I admit to being a little confused. I had thought that the break in method was for shoes that fit and which you had already decided to keep. I thought that the idea was to use a pen to set the crease where it should be in the toe box, so that you don't wind up with shoes that flex in the wrong place. Perhaps this is better identified as the "pen trick", which I believe is advocated by Tom from Leather soul. Member mens gaga recently posted a picture of this tool, which is reportedly (Japanese blog) used by at least one Alden executive to accomplish the same:

Maybe I need to review past postings as well. With my other shell shoes I have found that the creasing is hard to control, but that it has never been a problem. But I defer to the experts. OK, that is probably more than you wanted.

do they offer different sole options or is this a mto feature?

like these, what last are they?

I believe these are the 202 last.

These are a special make-up for Leather Soul. You would otherwise have to go made-to-order, which was why I had the problem of the limited shell supply. I don't think that the Sandringham stock version has a Dainite sole, and I'm not sure that it is on the same last. The stock version also has different broguing. I like the revised version better.

Be careful, I got kicked out of Barney's for a taking a picture once. As I was rushed out the door they were screaming at me what designer I worked for. I was like I don't work in fashion! They were all like, yeahhh uh-huh! Assholes.

I was in Barneys this weekend and just asked the associate if they minded me taking a couple of photos for my wife to look at and they had no problem.

HOWEVER, I was in Wilkes Bashford and asked to take some photos of some men's shoes and they told me that they wanted to see me delete the photos after I sent them to my wife. I told them "forget it" and walked out.

It probably just depends on what presumptious big-head manager is on the floor.

I don't understand the reasoning for it at all. It is a public store. What could one do with a picture of an item? I mean you could certaintly ask to try it on and in the dressing room take a photo and they would never know. They are pricks.

Whenever I make notes of things in shop windows in Italy a sales person usually comes out and stares at me malevolently. A lot of shop owners are very paranoid and aware of the competition from the internet these days I think.
