Shirts and Thick neck..

You have no idea what it means to have a large neck. Try being 5'9", 166lbs and nect is 19 3/4". You do not just buy a size up. If you buy the 20" neck, the rest of the shirt can house two adult asians.
Consider the guys who are 275lbs and short with 22" necks. Those poor guys end up with shirts below their knees and enough material to fly. Even their tailored shirts are too big because the proportions do not work out very well.

Most of my family has this problem when we dress up our necks are too fat. Turns out I was at the mall a few months ago and I saw this product called The Magnetic Button I tried it and it gave me more room on my neck and it snapped on without me having to struggle. My issue is a little different, I have a thick albeit short neck since developing my traps and therefore when I button up my shirt (which is a custom shirt) the collar wings have a tendency to roll back up due tio my chin being so close to my neck..any advice would be greatly appreciated

Like you I face this problem. I've recently been trying to "re-engineer my look". Unlike you I'm a plus size guy with a short build 5' 7".

In the past I used to buy button extenders for the neck of my shirts, and overall they look fine as long as you wear a good tie. But still if you look at it you can tell something isn't right with the top of the shirt collar, its great for dark settings or something more informal, but button extenders tend to wear out within a couple uses and they can be a pain to use.

Doing research it "seams", sorry bad clothing pun, that the only thing you can do is go custom. This put a halt to my efforts, but I'm seriously considering finding a good tailor. Buy something that is a good fit in all problem areas and have the rest tailored to fit. I think this is the way to go, but I'm still very new to the whole style thing, so maybe I can get some tips here as well.

Dear all,

I was wondering if people have the same problem when buying shirts.
When I am buying shirts, I have the problem that I can't button the top buttonhole because it just can't fit around my neck. It fits nicely around my shoulders and the rest of my body..
If I go a size bigger it is fine around my neck but the shirt is then to big for the rest of my body chest downward. Does anyone has the same experience? I am not a oversized guy but because of my sporting activities I got build this way.

You've a brother here with the same issue! Believe me., I was also wondering if I am the only one in existence with such defect in the physique. I call it a defect because the fashion industry does the design and sizes based on the average physique and apparently, we both are unique! I would suggest you get it tailored to your fit so that you can talk to the tailor to fix the issue for you, making the fit exactly to your physique being considerate of the collar size.

Full-cut shirts that fit in the neck can be altered by a competent tailor.
I used to do this when I was younger and trimmer but with a thick
neck.
