I certainly would not pay $6K for a suit, but from what I have seen MRs customers do get an outstanding product for the price. A much better deal than paying $4.5K for many of the Savile Row pieces I have seen.

Fair enough about SR, but let's premise it that they're all well made.

Aside from the fact that I really don't favor that house style, price/value fails for me at $6k for "A" cloths.

If someone's happy with what he got for the price he paid, more power to him.

Isn't that before shipping and any potential duty?

Not sure if deal is the right word. Rubinacci certainly makes a nice suit. It seems quite different from the styles used by most SR tailors.

No, after. 4000 euros ($6000) is Rubinacci's VAT-inclusive price. So, if they ship it to the US, they cut out the VAT (~18%), but then you pay duty (~20% of the VAT-discounted price). So, at the end, you wind up paying $6000 out of pocket. I don't recall shipping ever being a significant cost.

Obviously, the best option is to pick up the suit in Europe and pay neither VAT nor US duty

Perhaps value would be a better choice. While the style is undoubtedly different, evaluating fit across various makes is an easier proposition. I have seen a lot of badly fitting SR garments (not my own

There's really no other suit that looks like Rubinacci's, and I think you have to see one in real life to really appreciate how different they are. If that's what you want, there's only one place for it, and you have to pay the price.

If you have the money and like Rubinacci, buy it. Otherwise, this thread is heading down the usual SF bespoke blind alley.

+1. The point is to get what you like. Valuation in this is purely subjective.
