Do note that the Squeezebox cannot play back protected files you buy from iTunes. The unprotected ones, ie. iTunes+, work fine.

There are unprotected files on iTunes last time I heard, and anyone remotely close to appreciate music should stay the hell away from the evil iTunes.

Grim, yes the price point of z5500 is extremely attractive. Any upgrade will sink you at least $350-$500 in home-theater-in-a-box (as mediocre as z5500) or at least $1500 for an basic basic 5.1 system with a receiver. But for gaming needs, Z5500 is great; bloomy bass is exactly what a gaming system needs. You could try to tune down the bass a little bit or change the processing algorithm in the control unit.
