refurbishing ebay find: filson field satchel

I've been in the market for a briefcase for about a month, decided to take a flyer on this ebay auction for a filson field satchel for $250:

The seller is missing the key, the shoulder strap (which I might not use) and notes some light scratches. Can I order a key and a shoulder strap from filson? What should I use to polish out the scratches?

A good buffing with some Saphir Crème Universelle couldn't hurt.

Great job.

It looks practically unused to me. You may not even need to do anything to it after you receive it. Looks like what a week's worth of use would do.

The great thing about Filson shoulder straps is that they are all the same, brown bridle leather. The easiest part to replace, period.

Another great thing is that sometimes (just sometimes), older Filson articles are a bit better-made than current ones.

Yes, you can definitely order any spare parts you need from Filson. I bought a Filson about 9 months ago and love it. I also called and talked to Filson for a while because I was having a problem and found them great to work with.

Bickmore's Bick 4 is a good four-way cream that conditions, cleans, polishes, and protects.

For deeper conditioning, I like Fiebing's Aussie Wax. Rub it on and let the leather sit 24 to 48 hours; then buff.
