What he said. I'm finding that as I buy simple, beautiful pieces of high quality, I enjoy wearing them more, I enjoy taking care of them more, and they look better and last longer. Quality > Quantity.

Quality is always king....

But, I'd forego better quality for something that fit better/more aesthetically pleasing, if the quality item didnt get that part quite right.

Yup, and when I open my closets and drawers, I am seeing more stuff that I simply haven't worn in a year or more. A lot of that stuff is soon going out the door.

I say quantity, provided the quality is at a certain level. For example, my best shoes are C&J benchgrades. Nothing all that special. But I've got a good rotation of around a dozen pairs. I could have bought four pairs of Edward Greens on sale instead, but I prefer the variety that a larger wardrobe offers.

I say, both.

I wear cheap clothes most days and expensive clothes for more special occasions.

For ex, A Charvet shirt and an H&M shirt fit about the same, in my size. Both look pretty good on me, IMO. One is much better made, of course, but in ways few other than we can discern.

It's not that I have too little pricey stuff...perhaps I'm saving it for that Special Sometime. Or perhaps I'm miserly.

"Regarding love... what can you say? It's not the quantity of your sexual relations that counts. It's the quality. On the other hand if the quantity drops below once every eight months, I would definitely look into it." -W. Allen

"Quantity is a quality all its own."

I have to say that with my price constraints, my optimized utility would be for 4-5 Chans vs 1 Huntsman or 4-5 CEGOs vs 1 Kabbaz. OTOH, I would go for G&G bespoke vs RTW. But if you are comparing bespoke shoes, G&G is priced quite competitively vs JL Paris or St. James St or Lattanzi.

This is a very simple optimization problem. Given minimum quantity and budgetary constraints, one should obviously go for the best quality.

In other words, if you wear suits every day and have a $5k budget, don't blow it on 1 Brioni or bespoke suit. If you require 10 suits and 6 pairs of shoes, then buy the best quality you can given your budget. Buying 20 lower quality suits and 15 pairs of cheaper shoes is a waste of resources given the value you derive from the increased durability, style, feeling good...of higher quality garments.

I'm the opposite. My everyday clothes are generally my nicest ones. Why not maximize the utility of your highest-quality items?

+1

Variety is the spice of the wardrobe. I would go absolutely nuts if I had to wear the same high-quality outfits all the time - no matter how well they're made. I also vote for quantity, given a minimum threshold of quality
