Geez, how much does one have to spend there to receive a notice?! I'll probably check the local co-op on Thursday, although I can't say I saw that much I liked last time I was in the Friendship Heights location...

I've spent very little there now that I think about it, but ask to be put on their mailing list next time you're in. I seem to remember that you used to be able to get on it somewhere on their website as well. Keeping a casual friendship with a sales associate also helps.

I'm not sure. I'd call ahead and ask, as I only remember the main Barney's locations being listed, and nothing about the co-op's.

so robin, pardon my comprehension abilities, but just to be clear, nothing will be explicitly marked for sale at this "private" sale - you just have to bring whatever item you like and ask a sales associate if the "private" sale applies to that item?

I recall Gtown having a much better selection (if you can stomach a trip down there).

According to the sales associates as of last year they only carry womens APC. They actually told me to go to Blackbird, where I had just come from, of course. I was a little surprised they thought I would really try Barneys first for clothing in Seattle. I wonder if Marios carries APC now? Does anyone ever go there anymore?

I couldn't imagine Mario's ever carrying APC or anything similar. Unless it's Hugo Boss.

Yes, I suppose. Usually nothing is ever marked... though now that I think about it they did put a purple mark on tags once to show that it was included in the sale, but that was awhile ago. I'll be in tonight to see if I can get some things put on hold for me until tomorrow, so I'll try to get an idea of what will be included from my usual sales contact there.

No, they still have APC "homme." New Standard cords, a gray button up, black crew neck sweater, black jacket of some kind...that's all I remember.

Ahh, Blackbird--probably my favorite boutique of all.

I can't believe this thread is this long.

Just to add to it, I called Coop Chevy Chase and they said they began marking stuff down today--so it should apply to Coops as well.

is this barney's new york or the co-op stores? i went to BH's barneys and asked, but the sales has heard of nothing. i thought she refused the private sale to me.

hankwx, sounds like both. I believe robin got a mailer from Barney's proper, and I went to the nearest co-op tonight and they were marking things down for sale.

I was underwhelmed--but then as Bona said the Chevy Chase co-op is a little weak in general. OK markdowns on theory, marc by marc, the 3 steven alan shirts, some trovata and some co-op branded stuff (a nice cord sportcoat is in the low 100s now; their m65 is marked down too, but I think that's an old jacket). No markdowns on APC, band of outsiders, or any accessories, which is what I was actually looking for. The SA said they'd be putting more on sale next week.

I saw those timberland boots--not for me, thanks.

I went by the Georgetown Coop tonight. I'd say only about 25% of the brands are on sale, and only some of the pieces of those. The ones I remember are Theory, Surface to Air, Marc New York, Penguin and the Barney's house brand. Standard markdown was 40%.

Most of the best stuff wasn't on sale (APC, Nudie, Rag & Bone, NSF, Paul Smith, etc.)

They are putting markdowns on the tags. So, it may be "private," but it's no secret.

Overall, pretty underwhleming.
