I really love the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony:

The classic extra flat version has remained basically unchanged since being introduced in 1955. Naturally, it is a classical 32mm x 4mm, rather than being of faddish oversized proportions.

Vacheron Constantin also make 36mm, 38mm and even a 40mm dress watch

for those with larger wrists.

Sator. If I could have one dress watch, it'd be VC Patrimony or Dufour Simplicity. Very appropriate choice.

Another choice which may cause some to raise their eyebrows is this model from Cartier:
Cartier1920s.jpg
This limited edition model is a resurrection of a classical 1920s Cartier offering. The dimensions are an equally classical 37.2 x 28.8. The resident WIS at Men's EX thinks very highly of Cartier C.P.C.P. models such as this one - naturally manufacture grade. Even their Tank model for example has been around since the end of WWI.

Here are a couple of solid gold watches for those on a "budget".

The Nomos Ludwig Gold:

At 35 x 6.25mm it is a modestly sized dress watch. A bargain at 3680 Euros - the cheapest manufacture grade 18k watch around.

The Longines Flagship with ETA mechanism:

These are a recreation of a classical Longines range from around the 1950s or earlier. As a result they are also classically sized at 35mm.

I personally find 35mm to be a slightly on the large size for my wrists. I prefer a 32 - 33mm dress watch (by contrast I have one 40mm Girard Pirregaux diver's watch). I really find it hard to conceive how anyone can have wrists huge enough to need anything more than a 38mm dress watch - maximum.

Naturally, calling something a fad does not make it a fad.

I would have thought that wearing a wristwatch was strictly in violation of the by laws of the Antipodean Button Boot Society.

The Patrimony does look very nice though though I still have a slight preference for the Malte.

You should get that tatooed next to your "I <3 Thom" tatoo.

Yah I guess a 3 month class on trend cycles offered me know concept of the differences between "fads", "trends" and "classics."
Or working in a fashion buying office for over a year.
