I’ve owned this for over 20 years of its 50+ year life. Can’t understand why Seiko doesn’t reissue the 6139 chronos. 1 and 2 register chronos with a bulletproof column wheel chrono movement in dress and military styles. The Grand Seiko and Pressage chronos are all so busy and kinda ugly. They could take so much market share away from Hamilton/Longines etc.

If Seiko reissued their vintage pandas, I’d snatch one up right away. Agree with you that the Presages are ugly.

Does anyone have any recommendations of a good value non-quartz triple chronograph? I'm looking for something under $1k that can stand up to a few dings - doubling for both sport activities and farm work.

I have a few automatics, but my chronograph is unashamedly quartz (TAG F1), it's a good watch, had it around 20 odd years and it's been a reliable tough workhorse. I would buy another tomorrow if I lost it.

Autos are a very stylish option, but if you want a performance watch I wouldn't hesitate to buy quartz.

Don't have any recommendation other than do not wear a watch you paid $100 or more for while doing farm work or any other activity featuring significant manual labor cuz it's going to get beat up.

I still do a lot of work on my parents farm in the summers and fall and have no issues wearing a watch that may have cost a few hundred+. Whether it's a "fancier" G-Shock or my SKX007, my Tuna or even one of my Sinn, they were designed to take some abuse and have always held up fine.

I've had my Tuna for 20+ years now - I bought it in Okinawa while in the Marines and it traveled with me all around the world. Never once had an issue or a worry.

Seriouswatches is a great watch site based in the Netherlands. They have a small selection of pre-owned watches. This Helson came up and I jumped on it immediately. It arrived in three days with free shipping and incredibly well packed. Very pleased with it. View attachment 1931029 View attachment 1931037
That's a good looking classic skin diver watch. I've heard good things about Helson as well, for that price point/market segment.

Agreed--I am on the farm on the weekends usually doing work outside. I generally wear a G-Shock or SKX007. I'm curious as to the use of a chronograph for farm work... My concern was always just whether the watch can withstand being banged into equipment, get wet/greasy/dirty, etc.
