Or use silk knot cufflinks.

Yep, it's definitely acceptable. I think this is a common look now. I do it and I see others doing it all the time.

My vote > Yes. I'll wear my French cuffs with a waistcoat and SC so no suit needed, though I wouldn't wear FC's with pants alone.

I would never wear French cuffs without a jacket, or with jeans or chinos, but have worn them in the evening with a velvet jacket and tie and grey wool trousers. Just now I was debating doing the same thing but with a navy blazer, in the afternoon, and dialed down to silk knots, so I googled "french cuffs without a suit" seeking input and this thread came up. It's a tough call, but I'm inclining against it, if for no other reason than so I won't be self-conscious about it all day...

Whether some on here approve or not, it happens with me. Unless somebody wants to buy me a heap more shirts and a larger flat to accommodate the larger wardrobe I'll need, it will continue to happen.
Untucked? Absolutely, completely and comprehensively not. Under a jumper? Yes. If it upsets you, avert your eyes if you see me in the street.
