I've decided to order a bespoke shoe from Cleverley, and met with their fitter on his current US tour. For my first shoe with them I'm getting a black calf oxford, and was pretty well set on a relatively plain cap toe with broguing on the cap and rest of the shoe pretty plain stitched. I think it's the style called "Cat no. 7" on their website. (I felt as though the plain stitched cap was a tad too austere.) I'm also getting the rounded toe, rather than their traditional square toe, as it's just the look I prefer.
I must say that the selection of shoes available to look at during the visit was sufficiently limited (though impressive, given that it needs to be schlepped from city to city) that I'm still somewhat uncertain about my decision. I'm also not sure I asked all the right questions (such as whether there is different types/width of broguing that can be used in the captoe). Lastly, I find the photos on the Cleverley website to the somewhat uninspired, so . . .
If any of you have Cleverely black calf shoes that you're willing to show off, I'd love to see them.
Thanks in advance.
