I love Peggy Lee, and I like the young Peggy Lee's style the most.

Both great songs! Peggy Lee had a great knack for discovering obscure R & B songs and covering them, resulting in mass appeal.

"Fever" is by Little Willie John.

"Why Don't You Do Right" was first sung by Lil' Green--Peggy Lee was certainly influenced by Green's phrasing. The original version is well worth a lesson. That song is based on an even earlier song entitled "Weed Smoker's Dream" (yes, that kind of weed!)

I always chuckle when I see the video of "Do Right." Presumably to get more camera time, Benny Goodman hops right in and replaces the second vocal verse with an extra clarinet solo. Watch how Peggy has to get out of his way so he can use the single microphone.

And who was Goodman's tailor? His (very nice) sport coat is Savile Row all the way...

Wow. I liked the Lil' Green version, but was amazed at Weed Smoker's Dream. You can hear how cleanly "Do Right" was lifted right off of it. I will say that I prefer the Peggy Lee version, especially because of the Benny Goodman clarinet. I also like Amy Irving's version because of Jessica Rabbit's prehensile breasts. The best Fever is actually the Rita Moreno version, with Animal on drums. "My kind of woman!"

Love it.

Also love Christina Aguilera's sluttier cover for the ***** Cat Dolls show.
