This has been discussed in the past, but not for about two years (unless my search function works differently than yours).

I am in the market for a few suits as I will have to go from wearing one 4 times a month to 22 times a month starting in August. I enjoy the cut on the Paul Stuart "Paul" line and the Phineas Cole line (although the later is rarely work-appropriate for me) but after years of shopping this forum and sales, I am hesitant to pay retail for a suit.

I have tried lower-end custom work (unhappy with result) and often struggle to find suits off the rack that fit me well. I could buy 2 Brooks Brothers suits on sale for the cost of one Paul Stuart suit. Is it worth it?

All PS suits, save those from the Stuart's Choice line, are made by Samuelson. This includes Phineas. PS has several proprietary models that Sammy only cuts for them so there is a broad range from largely lightly padded shoulders to Phineas, which is quite structured.

The quality is high and the cuts are very nice but at retail, they are significantly more expensive than other Sammy suits on the market.

I love Paul Stuart suits. If you like the cut the most similar thing you will find is Polo Ralph Lauren, though the later is not as well made. PS is fully canvassed, so you would need to compare the price to BB Golden Fleece. PS doesn't have the generic cut that BB has. PS makes a lot of their suits with side-tab trousers and forward pleats, a much nicer touch than BB's generic reverse-pleat trousers. PS has more natural shoulders and makes more suits with side vents than BB does. The quality compare to the less expensive Samuelsohn, but Samuelsohn makes suits that look just like all the other BB and HF suits. If you want the PS style you don't have many other choices.

Thank you for the replies. I have found the Paul cut to be slimmer for its shoulder width than many of the PRL suits I have tried on.

I appreciate the notes on quality as well.

First of all PS is having a sale on pretty much all their products now. The Phineas Michael is a great cut. It is not as extreme as the rest of Phineas but it competes with PS mainline and the more designer driven tailored brands. I would take a look at the Oxxford-made Stuart LTD models, the shoulders have nearly no padding and the sale prices are very low for a handmade suit. If you happen the rare chance to find something you like no on sale, there's a chance you could haggle. Just saying; it happens in NYC stores.

That dudes sleeves look really short to be featured in an ad like that.

Cannot defend the styling, but PS runs very short. I usually wear a 42R off the rack, but I am a 42XL
