One Night in Rome: Where to Eat?

For our honeymoon we'll be spending the bulk of time in Tuscany and Ischia in the Amalfi Coast, and Rome will be just a quick stop, with only one night for dinner. After doing some research I was thinking of Antico Arco, which came highly recommended.

Has anybody eaten there recently? Any other suggestions?

high end? low end but local?

Either way, end it by walking around at night in Trastevere. IMO perfect for a honeymoon, very beautiful, relaxing, and romantic.

Not super high end. We definitely want a nicer sit-down, so pizza is out. A less pricey local would be great.

Trastevere looks great and seems like a must.

I forget the name of the place, but I've posted it before ... great meal in the Jewish ghetto. Cheaper but still sit down and about as "local" fare as you can get. The Jewish ghetto is just over the river Tibrus from Trastevere, easy either way. I'll look it up in the morning, but I know Antico Arco is excellent.

And Trastevere really is a must, especially at night. My gf used to live in the neighborhood on Via Dandelo, we spent many beautiful nights wandering around.

Though, IMO, the best gelato is at San Crispino, just outside of the neighborhood and near the Pantheon and Villa Argentina (a 2 minute tram ride from Trastevere).

Where in Tuscany? Siena? Firenze? Montalcino?

San Crispino was actually on my "must" list, so that's great reinforcement.

We're staying in Montalcino at a mutual friend's vineyard, then Cortona (almost exclusively because of La Bucaccia), then Firenze. I definitely want to go to Siena for an afternoon too. So I guess all of the above

There was a superb place in Siena, too, I'll look that up in the morning. One of the best meals I've had in Italy.

Are you staying on the Amalfi coast, or Ischia? Don Alphonso 1890 is worth the trip from Sorrento or Positano.

That place looks great, and I just read a review that said their meal was 40 euros inclusive of wine.

We're staying on Ischia, so technically not on the Amalfi coast. We'll be there for 3 days, so I guess we could take the ferry back in for a day trip.

Ischia is overrun with German tourists, not quite as bad right now as it will be later in the summer. Don Alphonso's owners also used to run an amazing wine and jazz bar in Positano, but I think it closed down. If you do a search for the resto my review may still be up in the forum somewhere. Unbelievable service, top notch food.
