Been on the hunt for new chukkas. Exploring the Red Wing Work Chukka, the new Red Wing Foreman Chukka, and have been looking at the Trench chukka on OSB's site. Not a huge fan of the 5 eyelet though.

Then I came across the Bonobos Desert Chukka:
https://bonobos.com/products/oak-street-desert-chukka?color=natural rough out

More traditional 3 eyelet and uses their rough-out leather. Only bummer is that it's the leather sole vs Dainite.

Anyone have these guys? And I guess in general, how do you guys like the rough out? Not much experience with rough out but would I be dumb to think I can wear them occasionally in a Seattle drizzle? The leather sole obviously isn't ideal but I'd probably just topy them.

Any help is great. OSB said they could make me one with the Dainite but it'd be $500+. Tough to pass on Bonobos with their 20% new customer coupon...

Thanks.

New releases today, Plain Toe Blucher:
1000

Some others I haven't seen before either, like the Rowing Oxford

Gotta say, they look pretty good, if nearly identical to Alden plain toe bluchers.

Are these made by Rancourt? If so, they should pay OSB to consult on their last designs.

does anyone else have the Oakstreet boat shoes?

i'm wondering why they didn't do the traditional 360 lacing system.

they've been quoted saying that when you break a 360 lace, pretty much the only way to replace the lace is to either take it to a cobbler, or send it back to the manufacturer. Normal lacing avoids that problem

ehhh i get that but with good leather laces you shouldn't have breaks occur often. hell, i have a pair of Sperry's pushing 10 years old with the original laces.

love my Oakstreet boat shoes but i have odd feet (normal to semi-wide forefoot with narrow heels) so the 360 lacing would really help to snug them up a touch. the fit fine, no slipping, but i ahve to keep them laced pretty tight. if i had 360 laces and could snug up the back of the shoe they would be perfect.

i wonder if a cobbler could fish a 360 lace through these...

I don't buy that, you can buy re-lacing needles and do it fairly easily yourself. That's just what they have to say instead of "it's easier to manufacture without 360 lacing."

think that through for just a second. 360 is cheaper to manufacture. with the 2 piece, they have to run the lace through completely as you would for 360 but then stop and stitch the end of the lace down.

i don't see why more boat shoe companies don't do it. saves the annoyance if the lace breaks

How does that make it cheaper? You end up using the same amount of lace either way. Seems much easier to do the non-360 because once you have the lace stitched down, the collar is basically the same as a blucher moc and you don't have to worry about the laces getting in the way during handsewing or soling.

The main thing is you lose the main point/advantage of 360 lacing, which is tighter lacing/fit around your foot. That's why most boat shoe companies don't do it.
