Do any of you know if Nunn Bush used to be a respectable shoe company? I thrifted a pair of ancient Nunn Bush saddle oxfords a copult of weeks ago. I took them to my cobbler to have them re-soled and discovered that they were goodyear welted and had steel shanks.

I almost bought a pair of vintage longwings, but they were sold already. They looked great and to be of good construction.

They were from the 1930's into the mid-century though they always promote themselves as a "value" choice.

Got sucked into Weyco in the 1970's (same company as Florsheim).

My grandfather used to get them, and I believe they were a pretty decent shoe back in the 1950s, as was Bostonian.

They are really worse than Aldo?I thought Aldo made pretty junky shoes. I guess at least most Nunn Bush shoes are not squared toed. I find looking at Aldo most of their shoes are ugly square pointed shoes. I would never buy Aldo shoes. I never really cared for Nunn Bush either because I thought they were cheap. They do make some shoes with soles that are leather with a rubber insert. Many cheap brands don't even make shoes with real leather soles. Usually its rubber or its something that looks like leather but really isn't

They made a solid shoe until the 70s.
