I just found this forum and was looking through to see if I could find some answers before starting a thread, but here it goes.

I've got one suit now that I got made in Bangkok, I only paid maybe $350 or so for it, I was only about 2 years out of school, so didn't have much money. Its lasted me about 5 years now, but I think its time to step up. I went looking at Bloomingdales, Nordstrom for made to measure suits, they had the usual Zegna, Hickey Freeman, Burberry, etc.

I'm not sure where to start, should I go to a department store? Go directly to a Zegna store? Or find a tailor in L.A? My friends wait for a tailor to come in from Hong Kong and they go to the hotel where the tailor is staying, then the shirt/suits are shipped from overseas once finished. Who knows how those are produced.

I'm willing to spend up to $2,000, I'm looking to get a nice black suit for formal occasions, since I'm short 5'5" but with a 16" neck, 31 sleeve, makes it tough to buy suits/shirts.

Any help is appreciated! I'm not quite good knowing all of the abbreviations and stuff, trying to learn!

Thanks

I would suggest you hang around here a bit and do some searches. If you don't have many suits, most (if not all) here would counsel against getting a black suit and suggest the more versatile blue or gray, in all hues. I wouldn't go to a Zegna store unless you really really really wanted Zegna, (which I consider overpriced and nothing special anyway). Take your time to explore options and check threads here dealing with Chan suits (HK tailor) etc if you don't want off the rack or bespoke.

For your price range, ww chan bespoke might not be a bad bet.

I know this depends on the suit you get, but what is the price range on suits from ww chan?
