Need menu idea

Could I ask one more favor - a favorite cd for the occasion. I'm heavily into electronic music and orchestra. I like a lot of layering and building in my selections. I'd like something that doesn't sounds too "out there" or snobbish but is easy enough for casual conversation and preparations.

Basically something interesting but not pretentious or trying.

Not b/c I'm new to dating by any means....but these are some good ideas and if we could do an app, main, and a dessert with wine and excellent music all paired together, that sounds like a truley great time. Like all the things I personally love shared with someone else who can appreciate them at the same level that I do.

I can recommend this menu:

Starter: Creamy champion Soup + Carpaccio

Main: Seafood (if u like) with rice

Dessert: Strawberries with cream and chocolate

It´s easy to make and very good ... and romantic

Here's a suggestion: pick a nice soup or stew w/ lots of ingredients and a long cooking/simmering time. Have a nice little assortment of hors d'oeuvres ready for grazing as you prepare the soup/stew. Take advantage of the longish low-key prep time (think chopping, slicing, browning, etc. - nothing too technique- or time-intense) for casual, get-to-know-you chatting. Have a nice white chilled for sipping during preparation, with a good red at the ready for when you sit down. Make sure your kitchen is clean! Get fresh, 'nice-looking' ingredients. Invest in a couple of nice wine glasses. Music should be relaxing - Caesaria Evora is nice.

Your realy giving this too much thought... and way to much attention...

Go to www.allenbrothers.com and order some wagyu steak burgers, get some cross cut fries at Jewel... Hit Trader Joes for some odd sauces... and get a stupid apron from Spencers in the mall... stop by McDonalds and get some Happy Meal bags... Stop at the dollar store for a few stupid toys...

If you try to compete in her realm you'll lose... If you set the night up to be fun and less serious you won't put pressure on anyone, and things can just by fun and playful... Plus she'll notice the time you put into getting everything together...

Any bozo can read a cook book, and do what it says... only comfortable, fun guys can pull of an upscale happy meal

Braising is the quickest way to a chef's heart... properly done you can create some of the most beautiful dishes ever made... may I suggest pork? all chefs love pork.

For appetizers I really recommend some quirky charcuterie items. If you find things like Lardo (cured pork fat), rillettes, fine hams, etc you can definately make an impression on someone who spent time at a culinary school.

If you want to try something more gusty, get the French Laundry Cookbook and try something out... makes for a great date even if it doesn't turn out quite like what you expected. Some of the recipes are simple enough for you to try while still being impressive. Plus you'll get big points for knowing who Thomas Keller is.

Also keep the wine flowing and you'll be fine

Some miguel migs or any of the loungey house Djs seems appropriate. If you're actually into electronic music it won't seem as douchey to have house music on the hi-fi. Charles Webster fits the bill nicely as well, though perhaps in the evening.

If she's in the catering business and you're not, it's going to be pretty hard to impress her. That's why I'd say keep it simple. There's nothing wrong with that. Do you know what she likes to eat? Is there a country she likes a lot? Try to go into that direction. You should pay attention to her on that evening and not have to worry about the things you are cooking.

I remember the first thing I cooked for my current GF (of 7 years) is a steak with fries and a nice salad. And a Mousse au Chocolat afterwards (self-made!), that had her melting in my arms.

The first thing we cooked together was some Pasta with chopped tomatoes, spring onions, parsely and chillies. Simple, tasty and it left you with a light stomach for after-food activities.
