Need Ideas for a Suit

For my birthday, someone paid for me to get a suit from Mr. Ned. I am having trouble figuring out what i want.

Do i be responsible and get something to fill a hole in my wardrobe for work or do i get what i want?

Basically my suit selection consists of about 5 suits, mainly J.Press Pressidentials and J.Crew. (I know i will be made fun of for the J.Crew but i got great deals and the fit me great.) The only basic that i am really missing is a navy-- non pinstriped suit. I do find navy suits to be a bit harsh -- like black suits. ( i have blond hair and blue eyes fwiw)

That being said i would really like a 3 piece tweed suit. This has really caught my eye-- so perhaps something similar.

Sooo i am a bit conflicted as to what to do.

I gave that some thought. My thinking is this: If i can't have what i want, then it should be what i need. I think that if i try to compromise, i will be unhappy all round. I think that right now, flannel falls into that category.

I did see a nice navyish birds eye that cought my eye while perusing the fabrics. Any other ideas for types of fabrics?

Thanks Sator.

(My last post is why you do not post when you are barely awake at your computer.)

The pick-and-pick was exactly what i was thinking about, just could not remember the name. Herringbone could be a good option as well. Alot depends on if i can find one that is not too heavy. Mr. Ned also had a nice birdseye fabric that looked great. The flannel idea is growing on me after sleeping on it, but i think i would prefer a lighter grey flannel over any shade of blue, sans pinstripes.

Is birdseye fabric considered a more casual fabric? If so, how does it fit in the formality level?

Others, when in this situation... get what you want vs. what you need?

Get what you WANT. It's a free suit, so I think getting something fun and different would make you appreciate the gift more. Although getting a basic suit missing from your wardrobe is needed, I don't think it would be as fun as getting something you normally wouldn't get.

get what you will wear. No point having that tweed suit in the closet if you'd wear - and enjoy - the blue one.

this is what is known as the Splurge Corollary

when buying something exceptionally expensive, do you get something conspicuously useless since it's all luxury anyway, or something you can use all the time to justify the cost?
