Buuuut... you could buy a pair of shoes you could wear every day. A dressier version of your desert boots for example:

Good suggestion. I wear brown suede chukkas with just about everything from jeans to a suit. They are very versatile and look great. The suede makes them a bit more casual than buying regular leather, which is good for the OP, and the darker suede allows them to be dressed up more than a desert boot, which is also useful for him. People seem to always be worried about caring for suede, but I find them easier to deal with than regular leather.

Exactly my opinion.

You should give a shot to the shoes at Nordstrom Rack. If you're downtown, the one on State often has a decent selection, if you're not an odd size. That would not push you too far over your budget. I actually saw some decent chukkas over at Filene's on State, across the street, last week as well.

I agree, a chukka or chelsea has a lot of versatility that would be ideal for your needs, IMHO.

Really do like these....they look very versatile. Can anyone comment on the overall quality and fit? I contacted them via email, and it'd be about $250 shipped to the states. Anyone have any similar recommendations? And if I got shoes similar the ones above, and pants like these:

I'll quote myself from earlier in the thread:

They are three for $199, and you can often find even better deals.

Get three in slim fit. They are decent enough quality for entry level shirts and very versatile for your purposes. You can wear with jeans, chinos, and dress pants. With or without a tie.

^^^I agree with this recommendation for BB OCBD shirts. I'd get a light blue, blue/white stripe, and a white, as suggested.
