So my mom really likes my gf b/c I'm the only child, so now she has a girl to buy stuff for and chit chat. Among the many Coach bags she's bought her, my mom just told my gf to send back her Marc Jacobs tote...she already bought her a Tumi bag for work.

Well WTF? I've wanted a Tumi laptop bag for a while...now The Girlfriend is getting them out of the blue? "Just because?". It amazes me that the woman who bitches at me for spending $200 on jeans randomly buys my gf $300 bags. Adding insult to injury, my girlfriend got a new job and makes more money than I do. And with a "gift" from her grandmother, she just paid off all of her credit card debit, no string attached.

When I got engaged, anytime I went anywhere with my wife and my mother, my wife would get introduced by my mother with great fanfare (I'm pretty sure I heard trumpets playing one time). I, on the other hand, was relegated to wallflower status. I took it as a compliment. My mother was just showing me how incredibly happy she was for me and how much she liked my wife. My wife has also been on the receiving end of some pretty nice gifts from my mother.

It could be worse - your mother could hate your girlfriend and/or vice versa. This would make things much more difficult. Also, be happy that your girlfriend makes good money and is getting herself out of debt; particularly if you end up getting married.

Marry her, don't do a prenup, and treat the bag as community property . . .

As JBZ suggests, your mother's love for her is a gift from God, enjoy it.

Of course, if it doesn't work out for you two, oy -- you'll never hear the end of it...

Bwaaah! Weren't you worried a few weeks ago about a prospective wife's debt becoming yours if you ever got married? Pwned by grandma!

YA, dude. I'm totally in the clear now. Even if she does turn totally batshit crazy in 5-10 years, she'll have more wealth and assets than I. I can come out even-steven no matter what!

It means we never mention designers on styleFORVM -- didn't you know? It's all about personal style, never about what labels you wear or use.
