Jackets: most men wear them too tight! Resist the temptation to get them taken in. They should be loose and comfortable.

and....

Trousers: they are not supposed to fit like jeans! They are supposed to be loose and even bellowy by blue-jean standards. Do not have the seat taken in. Do not have the back leg taken in. Just wear them as they come. The length of leg should hit the top of your shoe. It should not break too much. Cuffs should be 1.5 inches, no less. Older men can get away with larger cuffs but not younger men.

and...

Socks: nothing fancy, please! They should be blue, black, grey, or tan. Anything else, like argyles or other patterns, is too fussy for a gentleman. They conjure up an image of a guy rifling through a sock drawer try to find just the right sock for the occasion. This is an awful image. Socks should appear to be put on without any effort or thought. But: never wear a sock that is a lighter color than your jacket. No time to explain why. Just trust me on this point.

Took the words right out of my mouth. The title of the article should read: "How to dress like a jingoistic, ideologically dogmatic octogenarian who acts as if his fuzzily defined concept of liberty is at stake every time Paul Krugman makes a new blog post." I do like the numerous ads placed in the website advertising ways to "spit in the face of the socialist agenda" and ridiculous conspiracy theories involving Cuba though. Very tasteful indeed.

Everything they've warned about, many times years in advance, has come true with the current economic meltdown. Inflation, dollar devaluation, housing bubbles, and so on. That is an incredible track record.

What they write about is real economics that can be applied to benefit your life. I don't say this to brag, but to give you an idea of how powerful their literature is: their writings have made me wealthy when everyone seems to be suffering these days. Say what you want, but I am eternally grateful to that institution. Highly recommended.

Alwaysbeclosing restores my faith that there are actually a few well read people still around. Those who write off LRC as "right wing" dogma prove how economically and politically illiterate they really are, dumbed down by our soundbite culture. Nothing insults an "Austrian" more than calling us right wing.

I remember this article when it first came out and it helped me wake up from my 90's induced tech casual slob wear.

Yes, very simplistic and I would say boring as well. The idea is that if more men did simply this it would be a good first step to dressing better.

I also remember he answered the AE and Alden issue by clarifying he was only speaking about "American" shoe companies. In his reponse he spoke kindly of British shoe makers.

So mickey711 - Obama Zombie or Bushie? I am guessing the former, no real difference once all is said and done unfortunately
