Anybody own these? How are they?

What do the rest of you think? I know they'd get slammed on the MC forum, but I am actually looking for something quite casual, and don't mind the rubber soles.

I've seen those irl and thought they looked pretty cheap. A similar shoe but so much nicer was the Brooks Brothers Peal wingtip (made by Alfred Sargent) with commando sole, it was on clearance for $189 a month back, but it's sold out now. Point being, you'd be better off saving the $170+ on the Crew and putting it towards something better, esp since salestime is coming up.

I don't own 'em, but have never been impressed by J. Crew shoes. The leather doesn't look that good even in the pic. The Tricker's at STP have similar soles, and have been available for as low as $220 with coupon:

The extra $50 would be money well spent, I think.

and when you compound that with the established precedent of IRL J. Crew shoes being very disappointing in comparison with their online pictures, it bodes especially bad for this one.

Having worked (still working at J.Crew) I do NOT in any way endorse this product. To be honest Jcrew shoes suck. They are very uncomfortable for the price. Only ones i recommend are the collaborations

The J.Crew store in downtown Seattle currently has these, and I confirm that the leather sucks. They seems like corrected grain, without the applied top finishing.

Look for better shoes on sale.

looks really bulky, and i've also been to the seattle store and can confirm that they really suck, both weight-wise and leather quality-wise.

Do it. Allen Edmonds has 7,834,653 models like that, almost all of which will cost less than those brand new and age way better. If you want a headstart on casualizing them, get a used pair, that'll run you ~$50. Also look for deadstock Johnston & Murphy or Alden.

I got the J. Crew wingtips is suede on ebay for $40.00 shipped a few months back and they are really uncomfortable. I've only worn them twice in that time period. Their McAllister boot really looks like crap next to a Clarks Desert Boot, as well.

I'll never buy a shoe product from there again.

+1 on this.

i just got a great pair of weathered brown AE wingtips for $20 off ebay. They are pretty used, but the leather looks awesome and the sole still has a lot of life left. I also got a pair of black AE captoes that were almost brand new for about $60.

^ If you have a rather small, large, or odd size you can get shoes at a steal. Unfortunately for me I have one of the most common sizes: 10.5 D

Oh well.
