I bought a beautiful ivory paisley four-in-hand tie from Carlo Franco a while back. I think the tie is gorgeous, but I have absolutely no idea how to wear it. It looks very formal, yet it's ivory or cream. I always thought all formal wear had to be white or black, with no room for cream. If somebody can tell me what to buy to get some mileage out of this great tie, I'd really appreciate it!

If it is the tie I am thinking of, this is what I did with it... (was not an occassion to for formalwear of course) I found it did go rather nicely with a white herringbone shirt and charcoal suit...the fact that it is cream does liven up the outfit's contrast a bit, makes it a lot softer. http://www.styleforum.net/showpost.p...&postcount=575\\ P.s. I love that tie! If I recall correctly, Jill mentioned that someone from this forum wore it at his wedding. IIRC of course.

Yeah, please don't wear it with a dinner jacket. I think formal events should take a page from your local "western" themed steakhouse and cut off anything that hangs below the collarbone.

I, much like Skagalore, wear that same tie to fancy dinners not in dinner jackets. Usually wear my #1 draft pick, the dark charcoal double-vented Oxxford, white shirt and pocket square and the tie. I think it works well for dinners. Only drawback is that my fork speed must decrease by at least 40% in order to guarantee no stains on the tie.

Excellent point. I'd might as well have a bullseye on my chest with a cream tie and white shirt!
