On the rap side - I like some of the stuff on the Def Jux label, especially Cannibal Ox (my favorite rap duo) and El P.

Indie is both a genre of music as well as a way to state that someone exists on an "independent" label (notice the quotations around "independent").

this point is going to rocket this thread into DT.

Like most genre tags, it has multiple meanings.

Some would disagree. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut anyway, a girl over on CLLCT did a cover of the album, it's an interesting perspective, fiy if curious.

Speaking of E6, what does everyone think of Nana Grizol?

I would categorize Wire as post-punk rather than indie.

Indie to me suggests the gaggle of relatively recent bands such as Wolf Parade or Broken Social Scene.

Then there are the bands such as Blurt that are so autonomously idiosyncratic they are beyond indie or post-punk.

yah wire is certainly in the post-punk category (as well as gang of four in my opinion).

Indie as a style is a direct descendent of punk. It was kids having seen the punk bands playing, picking up on the DIY attitude and then trying to sound like the Byrds and the Beach Boys that spawned indie.
