I wish I had more occasions to wear a suit. :(

It just amazes me where men DO NOT where suits these days. I have been to evening formal weddings and seen men in NO SUITS. I have been to wakes where men come in with jeans and sweatshirts. It's pretty disgusting when I see 40 year old men who find it acceptable to dress like 14 year olds.

Ok, rant over. Now put on a TIE !

I have seen men dressed in shorts at wedding receptions - and having the gall to ask me why I am so dressed when I was only wearing a blazer and slacks!!!

Is this (grown men dressing like kids) just an American phenomenon or a general attitude worldwide?

I don't know, but my entire state is very, very casual. Even my place of employment, which used to be known for strict business dress codes, has gone all to hell now. Since I've started wearing OCBD and slacks (either khaki or grey wool) to work, I've been asked repeatedly whether I am headed to a job interview or a funeral. I guess I should throw on a ratty t-shirt and jeans like most of the people I work with. Actually, I did for quite some time, but realized as I started getting older that this was not the way I wanted to dress for the rest of my life. Time to start looking like an adult...

I wear a jacket and tie to work everyday, if not a suit. The most important thing is to be comfortable and not self-conscious about it.

Agreed. It's like an internet or chat avatar; why pick a bad one that makes people unconsciously repulsed, when you can pick a good one that shows your style?

Sadly, this is a worldwide phenomenon. I never cease to be amazed by what is considered acceptable now, even in situations that used to be bastions of formality (e.g. ceremonies, certain types of work).

I recently saw a regional politician on television sporting a PS and actually felt like cheering. Granted, he was on the wrong side of an argument with the minister of finance but his dress was impeccable.

Should I get the suit? It would stretch my budget, but it would be my go-to suit for the next few years.

Even if you don't wear it regularly, it seems like a good staple (workhorse) suit. I'd say go for it.

I wore a suit everyday. I am not kidding or exaggerating if it wasn't too hot I was in a suit. It was weird wearing casual shoes and t-shirt made me feel good and like I was dressing up!

I would say if you want to wear a suit more join a church.

But first make sure that it's not a church in which Stacy Adams suits are the norm, haha. StyleForum would kill you for that!

I respectfully disagree. I wore a dark charcoal suit to my wife's company's holiday party recently with a white open-collar shirt, a fire engine red pocket square, and fire engine red silk knots. I looked rakish and debonaire, festive yet classy. And I was delighted to discover that my wife's boss was dressed as I was, except for his white pocket square and metal links.

If I may go off on a tangent here, the event had been billed as "business casual," and I was really surprised by the range of interpretation. (Or perhaps I was really witnessing the range of willingness to comply.) My expectation was that most men would either be dressed as I was or would wear a sport coat and tie. I was mistaken. At the upper end, no one wore a tux but several men did wear suits with ties, which seems to me like "business" without the "casual." At the low end of the spectrum were men in cords, sneakers, and a thick, goofy holiday sweater. The majority of men wore dress slacks and shirts but without a jacket -- some with ties and some without.

Does anyone know the construction quality of Hickey Style suits? Are the made equivalent to the HF Ltd. suits?

Regardless of the answer I think that's a great staple suit to have in your wardrobe. It's probably $100 more thanyou'd spend at Men's Wearhouse and I would assume far superior to most (ok all) of what they sell.

Do you still regularly wear ties (at work, outside work)?

I wear suits and flowers and monocles and Western hats.

Yesterday night I went into the middle of San Francisco's Tenderloin in a three-piece suit, flower, beret, large watch-chain with fob, yellow chamois gloves and my sterling-handled umbrella to go to a divey ****** bar.
