How many miles did you run today?

can anyone help me with some running tips and tricks, like how to build more endurance? I have been trying for the last 3 months but all I can do is 10km in 1-hour session (a little bit more than 6 miles). I'm not focusing on speed or time, I just want to run more than 10 km. No matter how slow I run, 10km seems to be my limit.

The run/walk method is a good suggestion. The other suggestion I'd make is to just slow down a bit more so you're not as drained when you hit that 6 mile mark.

I guess this is basically the same approach as the run/walk method, just averaging out that pace so it's a bit more steady.

One other suggestion is to go somewhere different to run or set a goal that you want to reach neighborhood x that is y miles away, pretty much ensuring that you'll get more than your typical 6 miles. A change of scenery can make a big difference in my experience.

This times ten. Most people do their long runs too fast. It’s hard to rein it in when you’re gung ho for a goal, but long training runs should feel slow.

I’ve run a 6:09 mile, but my longer runs are in the 9:30-9:50/mile range. Add a bit to the long run every week and you’ll be running half marathons in no time.

Don’t worry about speedwork for a least a month or two.

27 miles in the actual outside world. I saw that it was 66° at 3:30, so I bounced out of work early enough to get to the headlands as the sun was setting. Beautiful day to be on the bike.

It was too cold yesterday so I did an hour on the elliptical and watched some of my "cruiser" sailing YT channels I follow for pure escapism.

6 mile threshold run with 10 minute warm up, four 6:00 minute segments at about 7:15/mile, and then a 10 minute cool down. Followed up the run with another 1.2 miles around my block a bit slower than that threshold pace.

The temperature was about 38º at 6:00 a.m. and pretty foggy.

Fall 1991 was my last season of cross country. When did you all start running?

Edit to add that I started running around 1985 (at age 9), after a few years of only running for play and soccer.

^ I started running in July of ‘97 when my drill instructors told me to!

Thinking back, I had a couple friends in high school who were big into cross country. They always tried to get me to join the team, not because they saw raw talent in me, but because they just wanted some more friends on the small team. These days I always wish I would have taken them up on it. It seems like it would have been a fun sport to be in, especially at our school that wasn’t very good. It would have been a low pressure environment!

I ran some cross country in high school as it was something to do when hockey was out and I figured it would help cut weight for wrestling. I hated it.

Wednesday workout was 4x long hills (~500m in length at 7% grade) and 4x short hills (~250m in length at 7% grade) after a 4 mile warmup over hills to pre-fatigue. These sessions always create a ‘mental panic’ sensation to stop and for me, hurt much worse than any tempo/threshold work on level ground. Came home for a 30 minute leg strength routine and some core. Felt it on my base pace run today. Woof.

9.75mi, 7:48 pace, 1,002ft of gain.
