I got an email with the make-up date for our cancelled time trials. At first it was going to be July 17th but a few minutes later the organizers sent out a correction that it will actually be July 24th. Apparently, there were a bunch of kids from local high school track teams that were signed up and July 17th is a couple days before the Michigan High School Sports Association (or whatever the proper name is) allows organized track practice to pick back up and those coaches wanted their kids to be able to participate.

I don't know how I feel about this as I imagine I am now going to get smoked by a whole bunch of 16-year-olds!

Oh well... thanks to the date change a couple buddies of mine will be able to make it and we're considering bringing a couple beers with us to hydrate with in the parking lot beforehand.

4.1 miles from Cardiff-by-the-Sea to Encinitas and back along paved and dirt trails along the train tracks. Running at sea level is pretty awesome. I averaged 8:30/mile and ran the second to last half mile at a 7:29 pace.

8mi, 7:10/mi, 156bpm
Working miles: 6:47, 6:46, 6:46, 6:47, 6:41 -- 6:45avg (heat adjusted pace: 6:30)

Took a page out of @Man with Apple 's training plan that he posted and ran a 5mi (intended on 6mi) GMP workout. Same conditions as yesterday but somehow it felt marginally better...or at least that's what I told myself. Brought a squeeze bottle of electrolyte mix that I intended on grabbing about halfway through the working miles and sipping on for a mile. Unfortunately I didn't account for condensation buildup on the bottle and sweaty hands...Butter fingered the grab and it rolled under a bench. Oh well, another lesson learned and something I need to practice -- securely grabbing drinks while running. Felt like I was getting dehydrated and didn't want to put myself into a well. I'm 15 weeks out. Need to stay patient.

3.3 miles and 700ft elevation last night in about 30min. Was going for more but reminded myself it was a lower volume week and pulled up before another lap. Felt great in the gym this morning but switching up rows for something else next week.

Also, I know we have discussed tight hip flexors here causing issues for everyone at some point. I've tried rolling and also using a lacrosse ball but this tiny little stretch has released a ton of tightness and what feels like lower back pain I carry. These guys are sort of my go tos for finding simple ways to stretch and usually one of their ideas fixes my problems.

Another super muggy morning for me today - 75º with 97% humidity on my little weather station when I got up at 4:50 a.m. 12.7 miles and my shorts were soaked a few miles in. By around mile 10, they were so heavy with sweat that they were in danger of sagging off and I kept having to hike them up and re-adjust the drawstring. I think it started raining on me about halfway through but I may be mistaken and it might have just been the condensation in the air just turning into water droplets.

8:18/mile pace overall. I tried to keep it relatively easy but after warming up the first couple miles I would push myself for the first 2 minutes of each mile.

Yesterday my younger son told me was bored and wanted to go for a ride. Not a typical occurrence, so we rolled around the city a bit. As we entered Golden Gate Park, I asked about his energy level and whether he wanted to go up Twin Peaks. He was game, so we got some good elevation in. He hung tough. Youth…

I chose the gravel bike, and it was great. Love spinning up the hills instead of grinding.

10 miles, 1200 ft.

7.2 miles this morning with 5 trips up and down the sledding hill at the park in the middle of the run and 15 pull-ups after each trip up as well.

The weather was a lot nicer this morning. Humidity was still high but temps were closer to about 65º so it was much more pleasant than the past few mornings.

When I was on the final ~2 mile stretch back to home there were a bunch of other runners out there going about in all directions. I probably passed by at least 20 other runners - a few small groups and a bunch of solo runners. It was really strange seeing that many runners all at once, especially on a weekday.

Can anyone recommend a good 4-5" short with a zip pocket in the back big enough for a cell phone? I am really tired of wearing a running belt. I have a pair of Janji that are ok, but I'd love an alternative.

How large is your phone?

I haven’t found too many that have a rear zip large enough to accommodate an iPhone (smaller size). Although carrying anything in that location gets really bothersome for me as the item jostles around.

I’ve really enjoyed these from Patagonia. They have webbing around both hips which can secure an iPhone pretty well along with whatever else you might have. Had them for a few years now and they’ve held up well. Check around for a better deal if interested.

Lululemon used to have a zipper pocket and switched to the overlapping flap type pocket and ruined everything
