I've got my senior prom coming up, and last year prom was filled with solid colors on plain rental tuxedos. I'm looking to spice things up a bit, which shouldn't be too hard, but i was looking for some input. So far my only anchor is the color of my dates dress, which is a solid navy almost exactly this color:

I rented a nice two button tuxedo with a vest similar to this:

but with small dots of a lighter shade of blue instead of the inside of the check being a lighter shade. I'm willing to wear a plain white shirt, but i'd rather pattern it. The ps/hank i've decided to have blue tones in check/plaid like:

or maybe this one: http://www.us.thomaspink.com/fcp/pr...=affiliate&utm_campaign=2178999&utm_source=cj The tie i get depends on the shirt i get, so really what i'm asking for is suggestions on which ps/hank to get, and ideas on a shirt/tie combo to match. I'm also worried about having too many patterns going on if i don't get a solid white shirt.

Oh boy, let's go easy on this kid, he's in high school.

That vest is not going to go over well here. It's not really classic, which is the look you're going for with a tuxedo. I think your best bet is to read www.blacktieguide.com and see how much you're willing to drink the kool-aid.

Thats not the vest i picked, couldn't find it. But the color is similar yet mine is deeper blue closer to black.

And prom is hardly a true black tie event

Kid has a point here.

I'd say as long as your tuxedo fits spot on (no sloppy long sleeves, no overly large shoulders, some definition in the waist etc) have fun with a little color. I even like the pocket square.
