GS is relentless - was totally gonna skip over the field boot and give my wallet a break....then they release that black cxl masterpiece.

So the storm traveler now...........can anyone speak to the kudu vs cxl? Much stiffer? Not bad? Interested to hear. I found the cxl on the traveler pretty brutal on the instep/vamp until broken in, wondering if the kudu will be too much to handle.

100% agree with this. I was looking forward to giving my wallet a break as well and focus on some shell Ottawas that I’ve committed to buying whenever the pre order goes live. Then, I get a notice that a pair I’ve wanted for some time was restocked in my size, and then they put it on sale a day later! So…

The field boots look sharp, but are not something I’d normally wear…then I also received the black CXL email and now I’m trying to find ways to wear something like them. Haven’t pulled the trigger yet, but I do like them!

Please post pics when you get them on feet. I've been looking at these but something just holds me back.

Diesel Dune vs. Ottawa Dune... which is the best for my first pair of GS? Which is the most iconic?

It's the same last and fit for both. Depends on which aesthetic you like better. For me it is definitely the Ottawa, because I find it to have just the right amount of detailing to allow it to be dressed up or down. It goes just as well with denim as it does with smart casuals. The Diesel on the other hand is a "cleaner" makeup and is also quite versatile.

My vote is on the Ottawas though.

I have both models. Visually speaking the Ottawa is more appealing. However the diesel is a classic as others have mentioned. Here is a picture I asked my wife to take while she rolled her eyes. You're welcome for being weird in the eyes of my wife

Diesels I think are their “iconic” look, but Ottawas get my vote (I have both). I think it depends on what look you desire. As others have said, I think the Ottawas are more noticeable, can be dressed up a little easier, and can also be easily worn casually. Diesels are like most other service boots, can blend in more easily, run more casual and are more difficult to dress up. They fit the same since they’re built on the same last.

Others may disagree, but this is how I see both of them. That’s also not to say that Diesels won’t stand out…some certainly do, but maybe that’s not something you want. People notice and comment whenever I wear any of my Ottawas, even the basic black CXL Ottawas. Unless I’m wearing my ostrich Diesels, I never hear anything when wearing any of them. Now if I had some maduro with contrasting natural welt and edging, that would likely be different. Buy one, buy both and enjoy!
