I am happy to agree to disagree with your irrational analysis and defensiveness. :)

My friend, there was nothing defensive in my post. I am looking at things rationally, from a 3rd party perspective. All companies have their pricing structures. If, as customers, we don't like it, we just move on to a different company.

Your argument is flawed, because it suggests you somehow cannot buy from a company and still be critical of elements you don't like. It's a illogical and tired old argument that I have read a thousand times from people defending a company they like. Anyway no need to waste any more time on either of our sides and like I said we can firmly agree to disagree rather than waste any more time responding to each other. Have a good day! :)

Clearly I am not in the US, but there is still no justification I can think of for charging $80 for shipping to my country when Thursday Boots charge $15 to ship to my country, which is 20% of $80. It is simply outrageous, the highest I have ever experienced in my life from any country, and I have asked Grant Stone CS to explain and justify this.

It seems to me on the surface like Grant Stone are shamelessly charging unfairly to non-US countries, because there is no way I can fathom that $40 per pair of boots shipped reflects their "at cost" shipping prices.

I am sure the boots will be worth it, but this leaves a very sour taste in my mouth and I will likely not order shoes form them at MSRP again.
Sounds like you have some awesome boots on the way, hope you enjoy! Question about the $15 Thursday ship vs $80 on GS. Is that one pair of Thursday shipped compared to two from GS? So at least maybe 30 vs 80? I just wanted to say it cost an average of 20-30 dollars to ship just across the US especially a single 6-8 lb box. I do not feel paying an extra $20 per pair to have shipped across the pond seems that bad at all. It is amusing but disappointing to see that extra $20 per pair got you feeling so sour. I hope it feels justifiable on your feet when that time comes! Enjoy and I look forward to seeing them.

I'm not sure what it costs them, but I recently paid the USPS $70 to ship a box from the east coast to the west coast of the US, and having shipped a few things overseas, I'm confident it would cost a lot closer to $80 to ship a two-boot-sized box internationally than $15. Even Canada is pretty expensive - I got a quote from the postal service to ship a couple brake calipers to Toronto (not a great distance) was $60+. Using Thursday's clearly-subsidized shipping as a bar for what it should cost to ship to your country is probably going to result in consistent frustration on your part.

In any case, I doubt there's anything predatory going on with the shipping. Pick an address somewhere in Michigan and see what it would cost you to ship a 20# box that is 60cmx60x50 to it. Grant Stone is a small company that's been as fair about pretty much everything as any company I've seen in the business (which is why I'm a fan). I get that looking at $15 vs. $80 seems like a big disparity, but $15 isn't the reality of shipping costs.

I live in Toronto and even shipping a small box of Fragrance is 10 to 15 bucks to anywhere in Ontario and the rest of Canada would be $15. And I'm talking about a small 50ml bottle. Shipping has always been expensive in Canada. I know some of my car buddies always ship things through a forwarder service for a small fee. I have never used it but apparently it's worth it on big ticket items.

For me going forward, I think I'm going to buy the B grades or final sale if I see something I like. With the Canadian dollar being weak it's difficult to justify boot purchases when I WFH for who the heck knows how long

Looking good! Maybe a silly question, but to what brand laces did you switch?
These are 60-80cents a pair or waxed cotton laces (140cm) from Aliexpress (China) and available in multiple colours. The wax content is not too high but they serve the purpose and it does not harm to get a couple of pairs of each colour in stock and use them as you.like and as you buy more boots.
Just search for 'waxed cotton laces' on Aliexpress and a multitude off options will appear, probably made in the same factory.

Need some guidance from the GS veterans here: I've just received a pair of the Ottawa boots in crimson CXL. Absolutely love the boots, but the laces...not so much. With the speed hooks, they seem too long (I'm not an ankle wrapper).

Can you all recommend some (proper length - 54"?) round waxed laces that will work with this boot and this color leather?

TIA.

I find 120 cm (roughly 47.xx inches) laces to be fitting well on my Ottawas. Not too long and the edges don't dangle around my foot when laced up for a snug fit. I too find the supplied leather laces too long.

I really like the leather laces and just tie them up and cut them so they “dangle” to my preferred length. I don’t like to wrap them around the back of the boot. Obviously you can’t do that with laces that have aglets.

Vibram mini-lug half soles installed on the Bourbon suede Ottawas. These are pretty grippy and should serve well on those wet pavements. The guy has done a very neat job for the princely sum 8 USD
