This is a follow up to several weeks ago when discussing first 5 ties for conservative business dress.

I ordered a bunch of swatches from Hober and finally ready to purchase my first few Hobers.

Which one of these navy with dots should I go for?

And, while I'm sure this is entirely a matter of personal preference, I find that I favor patterns where adjacent rows are not vertically aligned:

To my eye it's both a bit less dense and a bit more interesting. YMMV, needless to say.

Definitely not 3. In addition to the size of the dots, they're very tightly spaced. Between 1 and 2 I think it depends on how you intend to wear it. Like everyone else, I prefer 1 and the alignment that Tweedy illustrated.

After reading AC's post, I realized that I better check the Hober website and found I had the swatches off by 90deg. In the "wrong" orientation I was thinking #1 was far better. However, in the "correct" orientation I think I still prefer #1 but it's not as big as a preference. Interesting...

Are you sure about that 90 degree thing? In order for the small dots in #1 to align diagonally, the ribs of the fabric would need to run horizontally or vertically. Also, it would be odd for them to cut swatches in a diamond shape.

I tried enlarging the pic you posted of the whole tie, but couldn't really make out the orientation of the ribs clearly. I suggest you might like to clarify this with Hober before proceeding.

Definitely prefer having the small-dot pattern aligned diagonally.
