I had a black tie, evening wedding. The invitation said Black Tie, not Black Tie optional, taking the guesswork out. Having been in muliple wedding parties and spending fortunes on horrendously colored and tacky, one time wear bridesmaid dresses, my wife decided to have her bridesmaids wear black dresses. Maybe black is not the most colorful, splendid wedding color, but for December wedding it worked. My point is, her bridesmaids bought black dresses of their choice, some wearing long, some wearing shorter, some sleveless, etc. Not only did it look great in pictures, but the bridesmaids were thankful that they could buy a dress for the price they thought was fair and all have said that they have worn them several times after. So, while tuxes are not appropriate for your style wedding, I think a bit of coordination is classy and will look sharp in pictures. If you are trying to acheive individuality, then give a few choices ie. navy, charcoal, stripe, no stripe and limit the choice of shirt colors to pastels, solids, checks etc., but try and stick to a theme.

Well, I've requested white shirts and no black suits.

See, I think you are going to be good at this marriage thing. Make your demands early and often, but eventually you will cave and get defensive. Ah! Marriage. Congratulations and enjoy, cause you plan for a year for what feels like 45 minutes.

Just out of non-sartorial curiosity, just who or what IS this "Mafoo" you are a fan of?

While you're making up rules, what do you think of adding "no pinstripes"? I've always thought that pinstriped suits were just too "businessy" for a wedding. Just a thought.

Noted. I'm concerned about getting too fussy though.

Congratulations Matt! How are your nerves holding up?

Like many others, I don't like the idea of matching ties/pocketsquares. But you can ask them to wear ties that have similar colours/tones. The matching flowers is also a nice idea.

Thanks; my nerves are doing fine. I snagged a good one

I think I'm going to go with the matching flowers. It's difficult when your groomsmen rarely wear suits, and only do so when they must.
