what's the easiest way to get the St James in Rioja in the US? Does anyone stock it? Is there an "ideal" last for this model?

Thanks

If you opt for Vintage Cherry over Rioja, this is probably the best price ($899) you'll find RTW. Add Skoak's trees for $94, and you have a pair of G&Gs with good fitting trees for less than $1000 before shipping. Hard to beat that for retail, unless you find what you want on Bespoke England's End of Line page with current sale.

Also, I find the Vintage Cherry to be more subdued in life compared to boutique pictures.

having a very hard time deciding between rioja and vintage cherry on the st james. i think i like the semi square MH71 last better, though interested to hear if anyone has differering views in favor of the square toe.

i see the vintage cherry as being more unique, but worried that it may be too red, kind of like the alden color 4. rioja seems more like color 8 to me, though i haven't seen either in real life.

anyone own one or the other and have comments? want to pull the trigger on these ASAP.

I have bought cherry and rioja, cherry is lighter and more red. Rioja is definitely more versatile. Cherry is kind of statement color, just to show that you can buy something that you definitely do not need. Rioja is so dark that at night might appear black.

Some thoughts for @thebeebs

I would be hesitant to rush such a purchase, it's no small sum to risk doing it wrong, be it in size or specs. I assume you have your sizing down already?

Spec wise, IMO the St. James is best in vintage cherry, on the TG73 last. It's the one i would get, but it is indeed a bit dandy, which i think is in harmony with the GG ethos "classic designs with a twist"...

the vintage rioja seems to have a lot of variance in color, some of the pictures look eggplant-y while others have much more red in it. There is also quite a bit of variation in the darkness of the shades as well.

Need sizing advice.

RLPL G&Gs are marked 7.5UK/8.5US, whereas regular GGs have only a half size difference in uk/US sizing. In the case of the RL sizing, does the same principle apply?

That is, if the RL is 7.5UK, is it really 8US as opposed 8.5US as marked?

Thanks!

RL sizing on box is incorrect, US size is the actual size of shoe (UK / US inside shoe)

Also most G&G for RL is D width instead of E width, which I believe will work well for you

thebeebs, I would go for the vintage cherry, it's a eye catching shoe and not that red indoors:

I'm very pleased with the details, and i like the contrast from the black sole and lacings. This is my first MH71 last GG, and i'll be honest, it's hard for me to see the difference from my other TG73 last shoes. I'll have to compare them side by side some more later. Thanks to Skoak for the great service :thumbs-up:
