I say drop the shoes, or take a phone picture of them once you're out of the house.

I say just stop being such a massive fanny about it.

Do the shoes come off before crossing the threshold?

Are they then inserted into hazmat bags before coming into the house? (Done wearing disposable rubber gloves?)

Then the whole process in reverse before leaving the house?

Yeah I get it. Shoes carry germs. Guess what? So does EVERYTHING else.

Naw Ian, its a cultural thing. In some circles/cultures shoes are just not worn in the house. Period.

And I get that. Im just pushing Clags to break the rules, kinda like him tryna get me to eat bacon. Meaning, they both aint happening.

I get where you & your wife are coming from Clags. I use indoor slippers most of the time.

Shoes do come off before crossing the threshhold. Most if not all Korean houses have a separate area for that just adjoining the door. Ours has an inset floor to ceiling cabinet to store the shoes. We even have a nice bench/stool for taking shoes off and a 50cm shoe horn for putting them on (which for me is a little pointless since all my shoes are laced, but loafers are very popular here, as is leaving your shoes tied and just slipping them on and off)

And while all things carry germs, few things are in constant contact with the ground which, outside of being covered in germs, is also just plain filthy.

So. You know. A tradition that makes a lot of sense. Or making ianiceman happy on the internet.

Stitchy and Butchy get it; that's why they can give me **** about it.

On a vaguely related note, it is depressing how rarely I see nice shoes here. For a people so image conscious, I am shocked how little they care about their footwear (and I'm not a shoe guy myself). The light brown shoes below are probably the nicest shoes I've seen in person in weeks.

Also, here's a guy using his cellphone as a pocket square:

I remember these elements vividly from the time I spent growing up in Japan. My parents have imported that custom from Japan into .. everywhere else we've lived.

Here in Indonesia it's the same. Comments like Mr. Iceman's only serve to illustrate his ignorance.

Lol crusty.

I for one however, am an uncivilized animal. Not only do I wear my shoes in the house, I wear my shoes to bed.
