Both true. I'm not sure why this was ever even considered to be controversial on SF, if indeed it really was.
I don't really have any interest in arguing about what's "appropriate" or "good taste" or whatever....but it might be of interest to some that there is a long and almost concluded history of white-shirt-and-square-wearing with country clothes.
It's possible you may have to be the kind of person who consistently wears ties on the weekend, and possibly the kind of person who spends those weekends in a country castle, to pull this look off, but it is, or at least was, a thing. Now :foo: can post about why you'd be a complete idiot to wear such a thing.
I've always been perplexed by the war on white shirts that seems to be waged by many on this forum.
