So tomorrow I have to sit in the dealership repair waiting room for my car, so what am I going to carry "stuff" in.......I decided on a medium field bag, which I found at a local thrift store about 6 months ago for $25. Aside from the couple sticks of gum, and a used nicotine patch in a pocket, it is really clean. Best deal I've had in a few years.

Should say on the tag...4 digit numerical code - mmyy

That's a bag I'd like to own some day! I like my med field bag but the oval shaped opening can be a pain trying to stuff larger stuff inside.

Mucho thanks to @nevadabob for his help in getting a "proper" zipper repair happening. View attachment 1348519

Am glad some of my ramblings went to good use and inspired this mod. Looks even better now. How does it function by comparison to the normal zipper? Not that I'm hoping my Talons fail on me but it would be good to know.

I keep coming back to this photo. That's a lot of Filson!

Not only that, but they're all stuffed. What all do you own?

Ugh. My Filson "collection" (addiction) is absurd. I have something like 35 or 40 of their bags (tote bags included) in total. I'm a professional photographer, and use Filson bags for almost all my gear bags, so that accounts for 10 or so, then 10-15 totes of various sizes and zipper configurations, and then another 15ish different duffels/outfitter bags/etc for luggage or camping bags. It's ridiculous, but somehow they all end up being used, and a lot of them have slotted into permanent fixtures (one tote is my tool bag that I bring when going mountain biking, another zipper tote lives in my trunk with bug spray, suntan lotion, tie-downs, and some flashlights and lanterns, etc) in my life.

That last photo was for a camping trip in Iceland where we did the ring road, and the nighttime temps were often just above freezing...and the boy was only 4 at the time, so we had to carry a fair amount of kid stuff, too. That means that there's a winter tent, winter sleeping bags, a big air mattress for the two adults and a smaller winter camp mattress for the boy, stove, camp cookware, and clothes (multiple weeks of camping along cold ocean means stuff really never dries out, so multiples are necessary for certain things), food, lights/lanterns, utensils, a drone, and charging equipment for phones/drone.

It was one of the better trips I've been on (this was my second trip to Iceland, but bringing my son and seeing him fall in love with camping and instant ramen/mashed potatoes/camp food, and watching him climb volcanos was just beyond cool).

The funny thing is that I got flagged on my way back into the country for some reason (I have global entry and they do not, so they were in a separate line and global entry apparently glitched that day), so family was stuck in a long line and I was immediately escorted to get bags before clearing customs, so I got all the bags (it was something like 12 or 14 in total, the person escorting me had to push a cart, too) so kid/mom wouldn't have to deal with it, and then waved at the customs officer like that amount of luggage was a normal thing. I think customs/immigration guy was a filson fan, as he waved me right through.

Here's a photo of the boy standing on an iceberg from that trip. Certainly worth all the packing.

Works just fine, the zipper never failed, just the pull tab broke. this repair, while not "factory" is fine by me.

Hey hey so I can tell you I have officially shucked an oyster. Not just one, but an entire quarter dozen to be exact.

I can also tell you that I have never enjoyed oysters more than the ones I ate last night. Granted, shucking an oyster didn't take a ton of effort, but like a bunch of things, taking the extra step of shucking my own brought me more satisfaction than just ordering them at a restaurant.

I can also say that, while actually turning the shell into two pieces isn't all that hard, the difficulty lays in not fracturing the shell and consuming little hard bits of shell with the meat. It's a lot of fun!
For the record, I was talking about something today at work and the number “three” came up. I said: “so, like a quarter dozen?” Just to mess with the person on the other end of the phone. It was my own small way of infusing some humor in my (otherwise) humorless back from vacation kind of Monday.

I was actually referring to the zipper tab breaking off when I said “fail”, I guess I count that because it has an affect of the functionality and ease of use, an inconvenience if you will. The Talon Era, whereas pretty bulletproof, does still suffer from this dilemma, but in my research not as common as you might think for an era approaching 30 years old.

I like that story!

By the way, will anyone be trying the new Filson collab whiskey? 0B63B12D-378B-4451-9880-BCC35E9ED86C.png
