Hopefully their sale goes through and all of the people who are employed by Eddie Bauer continue to be employed by Eddie Bauer.

Every company employs people. I would love, love, LOVE for Wal-Mart to fail and go the way of the buffalo... and no, I'm not entirely sympathetic to the people who would at least temporarily be unemployed. This isn't the first time a company has failed and people have lost their jobs. What kind of a reaction, exactly, are you looking for?

I kind of have the impression their clothes were better years back. Like a lot of companies they seemed to have segued from being an outfit that concentrated on serious outdoor wear and ancillary gear (I can remember when it was "Eddie Bauer--Expedition Outfitter") into a purveyor of general sportswear. I used to buy some clothes from them about 20 years ago. I haven't been in one of their stores for years even though they had one until fairly recently in Santa Ana Main Place which I occasionally frequent.

I worked at Eddie Bauer in another life, and still have a few friends who work there. Eddie Bauer was much better years back, and had relatively well made things in the mid-nineties, before it became indistinguishable from nearly every other store in the mall.

I have a few items that Filson (questions about Filson's current quality aside) contract manufactured for Eddie Bauer. When Speigle, Eddie Bauer's then parent company, went bankrupt Eddie Bauer was the only money making division in the whole organization.

There's nothing wrong with Walmart.

Seeing as how none of you shop there, what do you care if it goes out of business or not? Have you seen their clothes? It's typically for wearing while back packing through the wilderness. Not something you'd see SF members bragging about in the WAYWT thread.
