Do carminas rub and cause ankle bone pain?

I watched Kirby Allison comparison video and other photos and videos and the carminas leather area where the exterior ankle bone is located is much higher than Allen Edmonds. I bought a pair of AE park avenue and the left one would rub my left ankle bone. I returned them, bought another pair months later and the same thing happened. I guess is my anatomy. It got a little better when breaking them in but I got rid of the issue by wearing thin heel pads.

I like the Carmina style and the higher instep area but that leather on the side way higher than AR and it seems it would destroy my ankle bone. I would have to try them but no store nearby and I’m hesitant about buying and then having to return.

Or maybe the carminas would cover my ankle bone and not really hit that malleous part where the ankle bone start?

I had that problem with a pair of AEs, but not others.

I think it depends on the last.
Only own one pair of carminas and they fit perfectly - wholecut loafer in the rain last I believe. Why not just give it a try and order some. Steve from Gentlemen's footwaer is great and can help with sizing much better than the very confused lady i takled to in the carmina NYC store ( only on the phone).

I have had this issue with a variety of shoe brands, I wouldn't say Carmina rubs more than any other. Often, you just have to break in the topline of the shoe so that leather is soft enough to not rub your ankle raw. It's not something you can really know without trying the shoes on though. I'll say I've never had a pair that didn't break in and stop rubbing though.
