I'm thinking of selling a pair of once-worn formal shoes. My question is, though, how much off retail should I discount the shoe when selling? 30%? 40%? It's an AE model, btw.

Shoes are worse than cars in that regard. Internet prices on shoes usually start with a 40-50% discount. Add another 20-30% for a used shoe. Add probably another 10% for the formal shoe/AE combo. You might be better off keeping them.

As a matter of hygenic practice I don't buy used shoes in the same way I wouldn't buy used underwear.

What Ed said. AE reselling is quite tough; a good price on NIB AEs is less that 50% of retail. In all honesty, I'd be very surprised if you broke $70 for worn-once AEs in a style of such limited applicability as a formal shoe.

I think it depends more on what people are willing to pay for a used
AE, just search the forum. Depending on the model you can find what the current retail of that shoe is at one of the price comparison sites.

If say I come across a pair of shoes worn by someone I think highly of (Lincoln, Washington, Einstein etc) and they are my size . I may still want to wear them after sanitizing them. However, I don't feel the same way about underwear.

- stp had them for $150.
- Add on the standard 20% coupon that floats around and its $120
- 20% hit on being worn once and not being able to return them and its $95
- Formal shoe thats not worn often by most....say $60-$70

I was thikning that price range as well. I got the shoes at a pretty good discount, so that range is reasonable to me.
