Dark spot on shoes after attempt at mirror shine

Hi,

Recently I attempted to do a mirror shine for the first time on one of my shoes. After watching several tutorials I tried to pull it off using dark brown wax from Burgol and a tiny amount of water. However, what I ended up with was a horrible dark discoloration on the toecap of the shoe, as seen in the picture on the right. For comparison, I didn't do anything to the shoe on the left.

I already searched for this problem and found a couple of threads. But none of them really helped. One thread suggested that the shoe was probably wet and one should just wait for it to dry. But it has now been two days and nothing changed. I'm thinking about using acetone to remove all the polish and start from scratch. But this is kind of a last resort. So I would really appreciate any tips you might have on how to resolve this!

Thanks a lot for your input!

Is the color of the wax a darker shade than the shoes? It’s tough to really see in this picture but you may have just done a self burnish on the toecap.

I think the colour matches pretty closely. I have used the same wax many times to shine these shoes (just not a mirror shine yet). I know it's hard to see in this picture. But the shoe on the right has a really ugly dark stain on the cap. Do you think it might be worth to try stripping the polish with acetone?

did you use a cleaner like renomat or acetone? you could have stripped too much. This often then leads to the leather being 'wet'

i would cream it back to match the colour... then it let completely dry before waxing
