If this is really evening semi-formal/black tie and you cannot get a DJ, then a lounge with fih is OK. Navy solid would be a little better than char. Evening, or maybe wedding tie, white FC and ps. Black captoe, very shiny.

Note: unless you are actually ill, you may not accept the invitation and then not show.

If you expect to get any more black tie invitations, then it is time to pitch in, and finally get that black tie rig.

Unfortunately I am too committed to this contrived event. And the one thing that a man should always wear regardless of occasion is confidence. Mine will come in liquid form. This event is just set up for failure for me.

**Update** My gf told me it is westcoast black tie. More casual. I'm throwing in the white flag now.

This thread easily could transform into DT. I will be periodically updating my adventures this evening. Drink up and enjoy the show gents!

Pardon my French, but **** that. I would not bow down to others expectations, particularly if it is my free time. It is not like you are going out your way to piss them off by turning up in jeans and tshirt.

I would not be concerned about lack of black suit or tux, wear the closest match and just go. If it is such a big issue wearing a charcoal suit, wear a pair of black dress pants and throw on a coat. If you have to make apologies, then just say you were freezing your balls off and your tux was ill suited to the cool evening air.
