Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

I've sent my boots back and am back in talks with the guys at Baker's. I tried some thicker socks and it became clear that I definitely need to size down because the thicker socks helped but still felt like the boot was big. Also, I spend more of my year in warm to hot conditions so I'm trying to avoid wearing super thick socks with my Whites. Right now I am battling how far to size down both in length and width, but I think I should be able to get that sorted with the guys at Baker's.

Just curiously, I am posting a photo to show where the tip of my toe is relative to the top of the boot. How do yours compare? Based on this, it seems like these boots were about a half of a thumb too long or about 3/8 to 1/2 inch. The ball of my foot was close to landing to the widest part of the boot, not quite as far off as my toe... I would guess about 1/4 inch from proper positioning. This is partially why I'm a little on the fence to size down from 10D to 9.5 or all the way to 9. 

You want a thumb width between your longest toe and the tip of the boot. So everything above your thumb there is excess space.

Woah! Thats way too big. I`d choose a 9. 1/2 size would still be way big...IMHO Mine have 1/4 to 1/2 inch max in front...mine would be where your thumb is I`d say

Boots are pretty forgiving so far as toe space. You want the ball of your foot to be in the right place and your heel to be comfortable or you'll be miserable. But.... still, that looks like a lot of room up front.

It'S far too big. I guest that you might have pretty similar size to me. My foot is 27.7 cm long, perfectly fit in 9.5

- Amazing! The pictures are extremely helpful, because from looking at the specifications I wouldn't think I'd like these as much as I do. I usually prefer a more western/cowboy boot look, but these are incredible.




- On another topic; I've put my boots through some serious, nasty work and they haven't even complained one bit. My feet felt great the whole time too. It has been like living in a swamp here. Constant rain and I've been doing chores for my neighbor while they are out of town. They have some farm ground, so I've been walking through serious sludge to check on livestock.

- Bick 1 has done a great job cleaning up my seriously dirty boots. Bick 4 is required after using Bick 1, so be careful. If you have some nasty boots to clean up, and they are oil tan leather, it'll do the job. If you are concerned about the way your boots patina will look afterwards, I can't comment on that because my boots are black.

Those are definitely too long. Regarding socks, super thick socks won't necessarily make your feet sweat more. Your feet will sweat no matter what socks you wear. Socks with a high wool content (70%, and higher is better) will tend to wick moisture away from your feet, making your feet feel more comfortable whether it is 0F degrees or 90F degrees. I wear thick wool socks year round with workboots and hiking boots. Andy B

Rebuild is about 1/2 price of a new boot.

I am getting mine 're-blocked', to a 7 1/2 E - which means they are shoving a 7 1/2 E last into a 7 1/2 D boot and letting it stretch for a week. Whites does not charge for a re-block. Just wondering if anyone has had it done and if it worked out for them.
