Cuff vs Plain Rules?

Is there any rule of thumb about ankle width and whether you should cuff or not?

I've got an Isaia Base V with FF pants and an ankle width of 8.5". Normally I don't cuff, but these have vertical stripes so I thought cuffs might help me look less tall/thin. Curious if there is a rule of thumb for this sort of thing or if it's just personal preference...

Always cuff the left leg.

For the right leg, cuff as directed after polling people on StyleForum.

The old saw is cuffs for pleats, no cuffs for flat fronts, but really it is a matter of personal preference.

I never heard that rule until I starting reading these boards. The only rule I know of is that cuffs are less formal and no cuffs are more formal. Hence, no cuffs on formal or semi-formal trousers (which may well be pleated).

learn the rules, but do what you think looks good. not all rules works well for everyone

Not that I know of. I've seen some comments about cuffs looking unusual on slim trousers, but in my opinion that is bunk.

I've come over to the Cuff Side.....I'd prefer 2" cuffs on everything, but there's usually not enough material in the unfinished hem to make 2". It's the only downside of being 6'2" I guess.

Thank you. The stonework was laid in 1703 or 1704 by workers employed by John Mallet.

Roughly half of my pant collection is cuffed, generally with a 1.75" to 2" cuff. I cuff something that I think looks good being cuffed, some items are more casual and some very dressy. I just like having the options between cuffed and plain.
