I'd sleep in the new ones. Call that the NAMOR method. If you wake up the next morning and still like them, then you know it's a keeper

I'd go along with that. If anyone else (other than Mac) deserves a method named after them it'd be you.

I just got this email:

Got it a few hours after the order. The email address seemed bogus, and that's not the Ralph Lauren support number. Here's the thing though, they have my actual order number! I don't have a clue as to how they could get that, not only that, I paid with paypal which is pretty damn safe.

I'm pretty damn confused now, is RL's system compromised?

There's some indication it might be legit.

Either way, I'd probably call the Ralph 800 number.

About 2 years ago, I placed about 2 or 3 separate online orders with Neiman Marcus online over the course of a few days. Each and every order resulted in a phone call to me to confirm the order before shipping with a real human being on their end. I had to confirm back the item, size, quantity, and amount - by that I mean they asked me "What was the size that you orderred?" and I had to know the answer. I got the sense that they were trying to spot/stop scams of some sort. I've never had another retailer do that but it feels similar to your process via email above.

I wouldn't be surprised if RL does it randomly and has a special team of operators and phone#s/addresses set up to do this. A team that is entirely outside the normal channels specifically to sniff out irregularities/scams/etc.

Just a thought.

I do, but I chalked that up to the double leather sole. That thing is pretty hard to break in (still stiff after about 6 months).

I don't have any experience with cordovan, but with a lot of my shoes that cause pain from the sole not flexing when I step, I usually have to take the shoe in my hands and flex it manually to soften them up. Might want to try, especially since Cordovan doesn't crease.

I did the same thing with my cordovan penny's purchased last year, it softened the sole up a bit and greatly reduced the heel lift I was getting. Great tip!

There were recent comments that Marlows & other models are now out of stock because of the sale, unlikely you'd be able to get them at that price.

Shoes are 30% and no kicker in the normal sale. Small chance there is a price messup that applies 40% online, but kicker will not work
