I really enjoy mine and it took some time to break the mental hurdle of spending $700 on a pair of boots. I currently have 2 pair of Luchesse boots, chocolate brown ostrich and black lizard, and they are very comfortable. I prefer the round toe and riding heel since they are dressier and more versitile than ropers. I do have a couple pair of ropers but I wear the Luchesse's more often. My next pair will be black alligator to wear with a suit. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone as I believe they are the best boot (some hand stitching and some machine) before going bespoke.

Of course, now that I've broken through the mental hurdle of spending so much on a pair of boots, shoes are easy!

Thanks of the insight. I've never entertained the idea of buying/wearing cowboy boots until recently. I find myself reaching for my chukkas far more often than any of my loafers (especially on the weekends) these days and it's started to dawn on me that I could use a good pair of smart-looking **** kickers. That and it seems that I've been completely oblivious to the fact that all my friends have been wearing them for years. Now that I've noticed, they constantly sing their praises.

Admittedly I'd start with a pair of ropers (I'm intrigued by these). I think I'd need to get used to the idea of wearing them casually before I could ever cross the Rubicon on wearing them with a suit/formally. Baby steps I 'spose.

For a factory boot, Luchesse is at or near the top, but I think you're mistaken about the hand stitching.

Since this would be your first pair of boots, I wouldn't buy the Mashburn boots until you know that you like them. I would begin with a plain simple Justin Roper boot till you get comfortable with a boot and know that you'll wear them enough to justify the $700 price tag. I would suggest a pair of these Ropers.

You are right but they claim there is some hand stitching so I give them the benefit of the doubt but 99% is machine.

I've taken them apart and put them back together for many decades. I'd like to know where the hand stitching is. I've never seen it...even in the early years when they were sliding from bespoke status to RTW. Once Acme-Bluebell bought them (first change of hands) I suspect any thought of hand stitching went out the window.

I cannot lie, I've seen guys that do that but not for a while. Most guys in Austin, including myself, wear their pant legs to the top of the boot like a dress shoe with a little break with nice button down dress shirts.

Maybe regional maybe simply a function of economy--buy your jeans long with the anticipation of them shrinking some.

That said, I too think the photo is a little extreme.

I like the light brown ostrich cowboy boots. Clint Black wears a pair in one of his videos and they look awesome!
